Title: Repairing the Post-MI Heart in Large Animal Models with Human iPSC-derived Cardiac Cells

Description: Coronary artery disease and associated myocardial infarction continue to be one of the most common causes of suffering and death. For patients with large myocardial infarctions, heart failure can follow given the limited ability of the heart for repair and regeneration. Preclinical strategies to test cellular products produced from human pluripotent stem cells to repair the post-MI heart will be described. Large animal models of myocardial infarction and heart failure are treated with human iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells and committed cardiac progenitor cells. The results demonstrate the promise of this therapeutic strategy and also highlight remaining barriers.
